a tradition of quality

History

A Family Tradition of Excellence

Gustave Gertz began building custom homes in Lorain, Ohio in 1914. As the years passed and his reputation grew, he often brought his son Blake to the jobsite, where the young boy was intrigued by the master carpenters who could, it seemed, create virtually anything using simple hand tools. This fascination with craftsmanship, quality and creativity has lasted a lifetime, and today is the driving force behind the success of St. Clair Builders.

Founded in 1984 by Blake Gertz (MBA), Diane Gertz (ASID) and Michael Gertz, St. Clair Builders continues a tradition established decades earlier, and carries it through to succeeding generations. Today our St. Clair team includes brothers Michael Gertz (CET, Florida State Certified General Contractor) and Robert Gertz (BASc, BCom, Florida State Certified General Contractor). A comprehensive team approach is the foundation for St. Clair Builders’ strict quality control program.

Through the integration of Old World craftsmanship and modern technology, St. Clair Builders has re-established the European tradition of the Master Builder, who is intimately involved in every phase of the design and construction of the custom home. After more than 35 years of creating homes that are unique and architecturally distinctive, we have clearly demonstrated the effectiveness of this approach.

While adopting the exciting new technologies developed over the years, we have adhered to the traditional principles of honesty, integrity, value and service. These principles, coupled with a commitment to design excellence, have enabled St. Clair Builders to carry on the tradition established over one hundred years ago by Gustave Gertz: to build fine homes of enduring value, which will last through generations.
